What does the family do?

After you've damn near married a person and ya'll break it off so badly that you don't communicate, what do u do with their family? The family who still calls YOU for advice, hits YOU up to go hang, chooses YOU for specific family events ... how do u treat that? And how does the new guy/girl feel, knowing that in his/her soon to be in-laws eyes, they'll never amount to or have the same impact in the lives of this family and their significant other as you did?
